──『一家に１枚』というポスターのシリーズをご存じだろうか（https://www.mext.go.jp/stw/series.html）。どれも力作で、美しく非常に勉強になるが、そのなかの一枚「宇宙図」は特に印象的だ。このアートディレクションを担当したのが小阪である。今回の鉄図は宇宙図の派生版であり、鉄に関する部分を抽出するとともに、あらたに加筆して、鉄の一大歴史絵巻に仕上がった。本特集を読み進める上で、地図とコンパスの役割を果たすだろう。（特集担当：伊藤孝）

私たち人間は、文明の材料として鉄を使うのみならず、生物として、鉄と切っても切れない関係を持っています。そして鉄という存在は、宇宙の誕生から現在に至るまでの歴史の結果にほかなりません。鉄から宇宙的な広がりを想像するための手がかりとして、「鉄図」をご覧ください。
「鉄図」は、公益財団法人科学技術広報財団発行のポスター「一家に1枚宇宙図2018」から、鉄に関連する記述を抜き出し、新たに情報を加えたものです。

THE BIG GUIDE TO IRON
We humans use the material of iron to develop our civilization. Furthermore, we have an inseparable biological relationship with iron. It is an essential part of our bodily functions. In iron we can read the history of the Universe, from the Big Bang to the present day. We hope you enjoy this diagram as a guide for exploring the role of iron in the cosmic expanse of our Universe.
This diagram was created by excerpting the information regarding iron from the poster One for Every Household: Diagram of Our Universe 2018, which was published by the Japan Foundation of Public Communication on Science and Technology (PCOST).
